Closed Loop

A pop-up restaurant designed for Silo the zero-waste restaurant in Hackney, London, inspired by their zero-waste philosophy. This concept places the kitchen at the heart of the space, embodying sustainability, adaptability, and community-focused dining.

The Closed Loop project reflects Silo’s mission to operate without waste by integrating design solutions that align with circular economy principles. The kitchen, as the central element, symbolises the core of Silo’s sustainable operations, influencing both the spatial layout and user flow. Hybrid seating arrangements offer flexibility, supporting communal and intimate experiences, while strategic plant integration enhances the atmosphere and functions as a natural privacy screen. The garden in the centre of the table is also a herb garden that diners can pick from as they eat for an interactive restaurant experience.

Lighting design emphasises warmth and invites comfort, with concealed LED strips creating a soft, ambient glow. Materials were chosen with minimal impact in mind, using reclaimed, recycled, and renewable resources to reduce environmental footprint.

The concept's adaptability allows it to evolve with changing needs, mirroring Silo’s ethos of continuous innovation and thoughtful design. The fermentation lab on display highlights their commitment to not wasting any food & shows their love for creation.

This project explores how branding and functionality can merge to create a dynamic, engaging space, even though it is a temporary set up, it promotes sustainable living and meaningful human interaction.
